prof.; after studies at the University of Warsaw he worked at the State Museum of Zoology and after the war at the SGGW and the Department of Zoology at the Warsaw University; co-organized the Institute of Ecology PAS; his main interests were initially ecology of Chironomidae, then mosquitoes and theory of ecology.
