Visit of the Institute’s Management in connection with the “National Center for Advanced Biological and Biomedical Imaging Analyzes”

On June 16-17, 2021, we hosted the Nencki Institute’s Management (led by prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń) at the Research Station in Mikolajki. The purpose of the visit was a local vision and logistic arrangements related to our new investment: the construction of the “National Center for Advanced Biological and Biomedical Imaging Analyzes” and the plans of the next stage of research works by the team of Dr. Ewelina Knapska. In the renovated reading room of the Station, there was also a meeting with the Mayor of Mikołajki, Mr. Piotr Jakubowski, who from the very beginning of the NEBI project has been very supportive and helpful in his activities to the Nencki Institute. SCIENCE FESTIVAL 2019

On November 22nd, 2019, the fifth edition of the Science Festival in Mikołajki – an educational event that we organize together with the Masurian Landscape Park – took place at the Research Station in Mikołajki. This year, more than 250 students from primary and secondary schools in Ełk, Giżycko, Rozogów, Kętrzyn and Mikolajki took part in classes on: life of white storks, recognition of trees, zooplankton of the Masurian lakes, seals and penguins, Antarctic microbes, archeology and … alchemy. Professor Ulf Bauchinger – a biologist from Munich, specializing in the physiology and regulation of migratory birds metabolism has been a new employee of the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS working at the Research Station in Mikołajki since September 2019 in the position  – scientist. TRI-BIO-CHEM IN MIKOŁAJKI

On September 25-27, 2019, the First Summer School as part of the project “Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies TRI-BIO-CHEM “From Chemistry To Bioinnovation For Better Life” took plac at the Nencki Institute Research Station in Mikołajki and at the Creative Work Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wierzba. This event is implemented as part of the Operational Program Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Social Fund. A three-day lecture series was held at the in Wierzba, while the poster session was held at the Mikołajki Station. About 80 people from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Warsaw, the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology and the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS took a part in this School. WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS

On September 12 and 13, 2019, at the Research Station of the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Mikołajki, there were “Workshops for Teachers and Educators” organized jointly by the Masurian Landscape Park, the Nencki Institute Research Station in Mikołajki and the Field Station of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw in Urwitałt. Lectures and workshop classes (laboratory and field) covered the following topics: lake zooplankton, invertebrates of small water bodies, small retention and raised bogs, and polar ecosystems. The classes were attended by teachers from our region, employees of the education departments of National Parks, Landscape Parks, State Forests and other research stations (a total of 40 people). Classes were led by: prof. Jolanta Ejsmont-Karabin and Tomasz Janecki Ph.D. (Research Station of the Nencki Institute in Mikołajki), Grzegorz Górecki M. Sc. and Anna Zaborowska M. Sc. (Field Station of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw in Urwitałt) and Krzysztof Lewandowski M.Sc. (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn). FIELD CLASSES “GEOECOSYSTEMS”

On September 6th, 2019, field classes “Geoecosystems” for students of the Faculty of Geology of the Warsaw University were held at Nencki Institute Research Institute in Mikołajki. It was conducted by Agnieszka Wasiłowska Ph.D. from the Department of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Faculty of Geology, University of Warsaw. BRAIN ON HOLIDAYS 2019

On July 26th, 2019,  the next edition of “THE BRAIN on HOLIDAYS” was held at the Research Station of the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Mikołajki. This educational holiday event is prepared annually by employees and PhD students of the Nencki Institute. About 60 people of all ages (from preschoolers to seniors) participated in the classes. BIO-FILM 2019

On May 18th , 2019, Bio-Film 2019 – the show of polar films by Włodzimierz Puchalski – took place at the Nencki Institute Research Station  in Mikołajki. It was a journey in time and space. Five archival short films after digital reconstruction for some time moved us to 1957 and 1958 to the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard, to the Arctic tundra, to the mountains and valleys of Spitsbergen, to the island of feathers and down. These films were made during the Polish Polar Expedition to Spitsbergen led by Stanisław Siedlecki, organized as part of the International Geophysical Year. The show was co-financed by the Nencki Institute and the Polish Academy of Sciences under funds for disseminating science. Czytaj dalej
